Working at the intersection of brewing and technology.

We're a small team of engineers and brewing professionals based in Philadelphia, PA.

We started BrewLog in 2016 to improve the way people brew beer.

Writing things down with pencil and paper. Passing around a single binder with recipes and brew sheets. Managing your inventory using Excel. Scanning things and e-mailing them between breweries. Sounds crazy, right? We think it is, yet most breweries are still using this process. We knew there had to be a better way.

Greg Blass

Greg Blass

Founder and CEO

Greg is a software engineer and full-stack app developer with a passion for entrepreneurship, design, and user experience. Greg co-founded his first startup, ComplyAssistant, while completing his degree at Temple University in Philadelphia (B.S., Computer Science - 2011). Greg then founded his app development firm, Philly Dev Shop, in 2013, and began working with Mitch Albach to develop a brewery management app for Yards Brewing Company in Philadelphia.

In 2014, Greg co-founded his second startup, Bestimators, and was accepted into DreamIt, a Forbes top 10 U.S. accelerator. Greg learned a lot from his mentors and fellow entrepreneurs during the 3-month process - most importantly, what it takes for a business to succeed. With Steve Mashington’s encouragement towards what he and Mitch had done at Yards, Greg exited ComplyAssistant and Bestimators to focus full time on developing BrewLog.

Mitch Albach

Mitch Albach

Co-Founder and Head of Product

Mitch's brewing career began in Philadelphia in 2005 as a brewer's assistant at John Harvard's Brew House, followed by Triumph Brewing Company. Mitch was then hired to help build Yards Brewing Company in 2007, and quickly became the lead brewer. He helped grow the business from its inception to its current production of 40,000+ barrels per year, solidifying it as a staple of the Philadelphia brewing scene.

Mitch saw the organizational challenges that Yards was facing first hand. Brew logging was being done with a single pencil brew sheet, and inventory was manually being managed with Excel. Mitch came up with the initial concept for an app to improve the brew logging process and approached Greg Blass to build it in 2013. It was an immediate success, and they continued to the develop the product at Yards over the course of three years.

The app quickly became a pivotal part of Yards' brewing process, and eventually they realized that the concept could be used to help other breweries - thus, BrewLog was born. Mitch continues to be a vital resource for Yards' entire team, overseeing day-to-day brewing operations, creating new beers, and helping to improve the way people brew beer.

Steve Mashington

Steve Mashington

Co-Founder and Head of Sales

Steve Mashington has been involved in the brewing, sale, and development of new beer his entire career. Steve started his career at Stewart's Brewpub in rural Delaware while completing his degree at the University of Delaware (B.S., Consumer Economics – 2001). Since then, he has taken on roles of increasing responsibility leading to his most recent position as General Manager for River City Cannery, whom provide canning services for over 50 clients in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Prior to River City, Steve was Director of Production at Rogue Ales and Spirits in Newport, OR. Rogue is an internationally acclaimed brewery with production exceeding 120,000 barrels per year and distributed in all 50 states and 40+ countries. During his tenure at Rogue, Steve oversaw the installation and commissioning of multiple tanks and a high speed bottling line that tripled output.

Before Steve accepted the position at Rogue, he was Operations Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing at Yards Brewing Company. One of Steve's first moves at Yards was to hire an enterprising young homebrewer named Mitch Albach, who had dreams of making beer. Together they assisted in building Yards brewery in Philadelphia and growing the brand from 5000 barrels a year to its current production of 40,000 barrels.
